LEBANON
Lebanon officially the Lebanese Republic is a sovereign state in Asia situated on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and has an area about three-fourths the size of the state of Connecticut.
Lebanon is one of the smallest countries in the world, but it’s also one of the most diverse — set against the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Lebanon goes from sea level to an elevation of over 10,000 feet rather quickly.
Lebanese are trilingual – they speak 3 languages: Arabic, French & English. (Lebanon was a French mandate before 1943 if you’re wondering about the reasoning behind the French.)
Lebanon has 18 religious communities – 40% of the Lebanese people are Christians (this is the highest percentage of all the Arab countries).
Many Lebanese are rather liberal in comparison to the people of Lebanon’s neighboring countries — short skirts, high heels, and bikinis are a daily sight.
A unique cultural history has helped to make Lebanese food the most popular of all Middle Eastern cuisines.
