JAMAICA

JAMAICA
Jamaica is in the West Indies, which is an archipelago of islands between the southeast United States and northern South America.

Jamaica forms a part of the Greater Antilles, which also include Cuba, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti).

It is the third-largest island in the Caribbean Sea, about 90 miles south of Cuba. The island is comparable in size to Connecticut (in the United States).

The tropical climate of Jamaica (averaging around 80°F) and its miles of white beaches make it one of the most alluring islands in the Caribbean for tourists. Another popular attraction for vacationers is the island’s more than 800 caves, many of which were home to the earliest inhabitants.

With 2.8 million people, Jamaica is the third-most populous Anglophone country in the Americas (after the United States and Canada), and the fourth-most populous country in the Caribbean.

Kingston is the country’s capital and largest city.Jamaica has a large diaspora around the world, particularly in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Jamaica is a Commonwealth realm, with Queen Elizabeth II as its monarch and head of state.
